They are agreed that God has real qualities, and I that He is qualified by them, these being: knowledge, strength, power, might, mercy, wisdom, rnajesty. omnipotence, eternity, life, desire, will, and speech. These are neither bodies nor accidents nor elements, even as His essence is neither body nor accident nor elernent. They also agree that He has hearing, sight, lace, and hand, in reality, unlike (ordinary) hearing, sight, hands and faces. They agree that these are attributes of God, not members or limbs or parts, that they are neither He nor other than He; and that the assertion of their being does not irnply that He is in need of them, or that He does things with them. Their meaning is the denial of their opposites, the assertion that they both exist in themselves, and subsist through Him. For knowledge does not imply merely the denial of ignorance, nor does power sirnply connote the denial of weakness: in the one case it is also an assertion of knowledge, in the other an assertion of
power.
