This book covers all the Malaysian family controlled companies listed under the Consumer Products, Industrial Products Construction, Trading/Services, Infrastructure, Finance, Technology, Hotels, Properties, Plantation and Mining sectors of Bursa Malaysia which have turnover exceeding RM1 billion for financial year 2015. Where two or more companies of the same group combine to have a turnover of more RM1 billion for FY2015, then one of the companies must achieve the RM1 billion mark before they are included in this book.
There are 3 criteria used by the writer for what constitutes family controlled companies: firstly, the family members (husband, wife, children, uncles, aunties, cousins, grandfathers) own the single largest block of shares exceeding 10% in the shares of the listed company (held directly or indirectly). Secondly, the family members must be represented on the Board of the company. Thirdly, the family members must hold the principal management positions in the company (Executive Chairman, Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer, or Executive Director).
